HIP for software providers

Source interoperability instead of developing it yourself.

Interoperability as a component, not an in-house build

Create the data foundation for your application without having to build it yourself.

Providers of clinical software face a dual challenge. Their applications need to demonstrate clinical value while meeting requirements for interoperability, data management and regulatory compliance. The second requirement consumes development capacity without increasing the value of the product for customers.

The Health Intelligence Platform (HIP) provides this foundation as a component. Your application accesses structured, standardised health data through openEHR and FHIR – without its own data layer or integration logic. This keeps development capacity focused on where your product differentiates.

Who HIP is for

HIP provides the data foundation for a range of software providers:

  • Manufacturers of specialised and departmental systems
  • Providers of telemedicine applications and digital health applications
  • Providers of AI, analytics and documentation solutions
  • Hospital information system vendors looking to open or extend their data layer

Key features

  • Standardised data management without in-house development

HIP stores clinical, administrative and analytical health data in open standards and makes it available through defined interfaces. Your application uses an established, standardised data layer instead of building and maintaining one of its own.

Semantic consistency is established as data is ingested, including through the terminology service with SNOMED CT, LOINC and ICD-10.

  • Regulatory compliance as a component

Requirements for interoperability and data exchange are increasing, driven in part by ISiK and the European Health Data Space, with deadlines starting in 2029. These requirements are mandatory and do not differentiate your product: they consume development capacity without increasing the price you can charge.

With HIP, you source the technical foundation as a component. Compliance of your product remains your responsibility, but you do not need to develop the data infrastructure required to support it yourself.

  • Stable interfaces and reliable documentation

Development teams assess a platform by the time it takes to achieve a working first result. HIP provides defined interfaces based on open standards, versioned technical documentation and predictable system behaviour.

Data models are defined functionally through openEHR templates and archetypes. They can be extended at runtime without changes to application code.

  • Integrate once, deploy across your customer base

Integration is completed once against standardised interfaces and can then be used across your customer base, regardless of the source systems in place at each organisation. Customer-specific custom logic is eliminated or moved to the integration layer.

This reduces effort per implementation, and integration issues at customer sites no longer become a constraint on your product.

  • Interoperability across system boundaries

HIP brings data from different source systems together in a shared data estate. Your application gains access to a context that extends beyond the boundaries of an individual system, enabling capabilities that isolated data stores cannot provide.

Multiple independent applications can work in parallel on the same data estate without affecting one another.

  • A foundation for AI and analytics

Data-driven capabilities require structured, semantically unambiguous and longitudinally available data. HIP provides this foundation, allowing your application to build analytics and AI capabilities on reliable data rather than first having to establish data quality.

Data quality itself becomes measurable and traceable over time.

Deployment and commercial models

HIP is multi-tenant and operated by default in a European cloud environment, with on-premises deployment available on request. This enables your customers to meet differing operational and data protection requirements without requiring your product to fragment into separate variants.

Commercial and licensing models for use within a product are agreed individually.

Clear roles in collaboration

HIP is infrastructure. It provides data management, integration and interfaces so that applications can be built on top. Data is held in open standards and remains usable independently of the application. Neither you nor your customers are therefore tied to a single product.

HIP Partner Programme

Through the partner programme, providers receive technical access, enablement and joint business development based on the Health Intelligence Platform.

Working with vitagroup was a logical step for us. By extracting medical information from unstructured text and storing it in HIP, we are opening up entirely new possibilities for efficient data processing in healthcare.
