The fact is, that patients will and should no longer – as the word implies – be patient sufferers. The expert based hierarchical decision-making structures that still prevail were overtaken long ago. What we need is a new concept for the interaction between stakeholders within the healthcare system and the patients – a patient-focused approach that actively engages patients and turns them into active partners of healthcare providers. 

Essential for the success of these concepts: they need to create a meaningful connection between the digital and real world. Despite the progressing digitalisation the real world will continue to play a significant role in healthcare. Appropriate integration of medical offers in day-to-day user concepts and a seamless transition between online and offline worlds will be central factors for the success of sustainable solutions.

The patients’ journey is not necessarily linear and does not end at one specific point.
